CALLING INVENTORS OF HAPPINESS!

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Little Inventors, we’re inviting people of all ages to take part in JOY LAB: Inventing for Happiness - a creative challenge asking a simple but powerful question:

What can you invent to bring a moment of happiness to someone’s day?

Across Sunderland, South Tyneside and beyond, people are being invited to imagine playful inventions that make everyday life feel a bit nicer - whether that’s making someone smile, helping with something tricky, or simply turning an ordinary moment into something joyful.

A CELEBRATION OF IMAGINATION

Ten years ago, artist and inventor Dominic Wilcox asked children in Sunderland and South Tyneside to draw their most imaginative invention ideas. Those ideas were later brought to life by professional makers, sparking the creation of Little Inventors - a global creative movement that has since inspired children around the world, even reaching the International Space Station.

Now, a decade later, JOY LAB invites a new wave of inventors to share their ideas - this time welcoming people of all ages to take part.

INVENTING TOGETHER

Throughout the project, creative workshops and events are taking place across the region, encouraging participants to explore imagination, kindness and creativity through invention.

From the many ideas shared, a selection will be brought to life by professional makers, artists and creators, transforming drawings into real objects, models or animations.

FROM IMAGINATION TO REALITY

The inventions created through JOY LAB will be showcased in a public exhibition, celebrating the creativity, humour and imagination of the region.

Together, these ideas will form a joyful collection of inventions designed not to solve the world’s biggest problems - but to make everyday life a little brighter.

Go to the challenge now!

JOY LAB is a project by Tomorrow Projects, from the team behind Little Inventors.

The project is supported using public funding by Arts Council England, alongside South Tyneside Council, The Cultural Spring, and the University of Sunderland.
